Scalloway is a village of approximately 1300 residents on the west central mainland of Shetland. Once the ancient capital of Shetland, the village is today a modern progressive community centred around the sheltered busy commercial harbour that plays host to traditional fishing vessels, modern aquaculture services and some of the most modern shipping in the oil industry working west of Shetland.

The villages has a wide range of local services including excellent local shops and restaurants, a public swimming pool and a museum.

When approaching Scalloway by road you are caught at “The Scord” by what is one of the most iconic and breathtaking views that Shetland has to offer, with harbour, castle, bridge and the scattering of  smaller isles in the harbour approaches, only the larger of which are occupied. This view changes in all the varied conditions of light and weather that Shetland offers daily, and concurrently varies with large, traditional or historic vessels that use the port daily.
